What to bring for your surf trip

Pack as few things as possible. You'll be spending the majority of the time in the water so you don't need to bring much with you. However, here is a list of items you definitely should bring:

  1. Travel documents: airline tickets, passport, plus copies.
  2. A pen for filling out Indo immigration departure/arrival card (issued on the plane)
  3. Credit cards, cash, travelers cheques.
  4. Books, magazines, music.
  5. Personal toiletries.
  6. Electricity adaptor (optional)
  7. Camera/video camera with accessories, film, and protective bag.
  8. Sunglasses: 2 pairs are a good idea.
  9. Moisturizing lotion if preferred.
  10. Malaria medication if preferred.
  11. Mosquito repellent with DHT (optional).
  12. One pair of long pants and one long sleeve shirt are a good idea for night-time mosquito protection.
  13. Light clothing for outdoor (shorts, t-shirts or light cotton shirts).
  14. One set of heavier clothing for air conditioned surroundings.
  15. Sandals, shoes, and socks (for travel to/from boat only).
  16. Hats: peak hats for convenience, larger brimmed for protection.
  17. Towel (note that onboard towels and bed linen are supplied).
  18. Surfboards and adequate surfboard travel bag protection.
  19. A variety of leashes for different conditions is best.
  20. Fin keys and fins.
  21. Helmet if preferred
  22. Rash guard or T-shirt. (Note that black or dark colors get hot in the tropics and are usually best avoided).
  23. Reef booties, if preferred.
  24. Tropical water surf wax and wax comb.

NOTE:

  1. Cash needs to be unmarked and crisp. USD$ dated prior to 2001 are generally not accepted.
  2. Passport must have more than 6 months validity from the date of entry into Indonesia.
  3. A visa can be obtained prior to entry into Indonesia, however a visa on arrival at the airport, costing USD$25.00 is the usual procedure.
  4. A couple of dollars for airport porters is worth having on hand. Be careful of being overcharged. Approx. 10,000rp / USD$1. / Aud.$2.00 is the usual for a bag or surfboard porterage.
  5. The Midas runs 220/240v AC. Any U.S. electrical appliances running 110v only, you will need to bring a 220/240v to 110v adapter.
